What the Booking Protect team did this summer

Summer 2020 didn’t quite work out the way any of us had planned. With trips abroad cancelled, live entertainment on hold and COVID-19 still lurking, we’ve all had to be careful not to take unnecessary risk. But that doesn’t equate to spending the summer home alone either.

The team are all too aware of the devastating impact the pandemic has had on the hospitality, leisure and entertainment industries. That’s why we’ve been keen to get out and about to support these key sectors wherever possible. Here’s just a snapshot of what the team’s been up to this summer…

A brilliant trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Our Business Development Director, Cat, headed out to Blackpool for the day for a fun-filled trip to the Pleasure Beach.

“It was a perfect adventure and a great opportunity to have some fun. We all felt so safe and looked after by the staff at the Pleasure Beach. Queues were socially distanced, rides were disinfected and other visitors really respected the rules that were put in place. Due to reduced visitor numbers the whole theme park was quite quiet which meant we barely had to queue. It made the experience even more enjoyable because we had extra time on the rides. A top family day out.”

Back to the cricket pitch

Our resident cricket fanatic, Keiran, has been enjoying being back in the field with his club Stamford Bridge, that is until the rain arrives. Despite the new restrictions the game has been a breath of fresh air in a shortened yet unforgettable season.

“It’s been a very long few months without playing a game of cricket with the rest of the team. It might not be everyone’s idea of fun, but it’s a major part of my life. I love the buzz of the game and the camaraderie of it all. It’s great to be back playing regular matches again!”

Getting back to the gym

Our Development Executive, Liam, has been enjoying an active lifestyle now gyms have reopened.

“Since the gyms and golf courses have reopened, I’ve been getting back into working out or playing a round of golf. It’s given me the perfect excuse to take advantage of the UK’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme a handful of times, too.”

Theatre al fresco

Content Manager Sophie is normally at the theatre two or three times a week. So when the chance came up to enjoy one of Park Bench Theatre’s outdoor shows at Rowntree Park, she jumped at the chance.

“Sitting in small bubbles on the grass in the glorious summer sunshine watching a one-man monologue was an absolute treat. The event was meticulously organised and creatively put together. After nearly six months without live entertainment, enjoying a shared experience with other theatre-goers was truly wonderful.”

Venturing out through lockdown

Our Refund Administrator Leah has been going on plenty of adventures with her daughter this summer. From exploring beaches, abbeys, country walks and the Yorkshire Dales right through to farms and theme parks, she’s done it all as and when we’ve been given the green light.

“We are always out and about somewhere. Particular highlights have been Scarborough Splash Park, Sundown Adventure Land, Lightwater Valley and Hesketh Farm. We’ve found most people obey the government rules and social distancing measures, so it feels very safe to enjoy fun days out.”

Hanging out with the Vikings

Our Office Manager Vikki enjoyed a trip out to York to take in the historical vibes.

“I really enjoyed exploring the historic city. Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to York without stopping by the Minster! I also loved going to Jorvik and travelling back in time to a time where COVID-19 didn’t exist.”

A meal out to remember

Head of Brand and Marketing Ollie treated himself to a fine dining experience at the Box Tree in Ilkley.

“Restaurants have done a fantastic job in adapting and diversifying following the pandemic. The Box Tree certainly hasn’t lost its five-star touch. We had the VIP welcome from the moment we walked in and enjoyed several quality dishes. It made me forget the pandemic was even going on – a wonderful evening of escapism surrounded by exceptional service.”

Our team will continue to support the industry, taking every opportunity to head along to theatres, theme parks, restaurants and much more! To find out more about the team’s adventures, follow us on Instagram.
