How will coronavirus affect your refund protection?

Will your refund protection pay out for coronavirus? Here's all you need to know...

Coronavirus is affecting thousands of people around the world, impacting countless businesses. If you have tickets for an event, you’re probably wondering if your refund protection will pay out for this relatively new disease.

What do our Terms and Conditions say?

If you are due to attend an event, and have Booking Protect refund protection, you will be able to get a refund if you fall ill with coronavirus and cannot attend an event. As with all illness, you will need to provide a doctor’s note or official documentation to evidence any illness.

We will not be able to provide a refund if you voluntarily self-isolate or choose not to attend an event in order to prevent contracting the virus.

The event is cancelled – what do I do?

If an event is cancelled, it will be up to the event organiser or venue to arrange refunds. Booking Protect will only refund you if you are unable to attend an event (please refer to our terms for full information).

Impact of cancelled flights

If your flight or any public transport is cancelled due to issues related to coronavirus, you may be entitled to a refund if you are not able to arrange alternative travel in time.  You are expected to take all options to rearrange travel to avoid a refund.

However, Booking Protect’s refund protection product will not reimburse customers if there is a Government travel ban.

What about FlyBe customers?

You may have read the recent news about the collapse of airline Flybe. The company has gone into administration, with the impact of coronavirus stated as partly to blame.

If you were imminently due to travel to your booked event via FlyBe and are unable to make alternative travel arrangements in time then your booking maybe able to be refunded. However if it is possible to make alternative travel arrangements in time to get to your booked event, you should do this as in this instance you would not be eligible for a refund with Booking Protect.
