We were lucky enough to catch up with just a handful of our fantastic Booking Protect team to find out more about their hidden skills, favourite shows and why they love working in the ticketing industry!
Catching five minutes to chat in our busy office can be a challenge, but we managed to get some great answers from a selection of staff. Here’s the result of our secret agent mission to find out all you need to know about some of our talented team…
So team… how long have you been working in the industry?
Cat: About 18 years!
Abi: I’ve been working in the arts for over 20 years, but I’m relatively new to the world of refund protection.
Cath: I’ve been working in the insurance industry for over a decade, but more specifically the refund protection industry for two.
Vikki: I’ve been working for Booking Protect for three and a half years, but I’ve been working in the insurance industry for 25 years.
Leah: It’ll be three years this June… how time flies!
You must have travelled abroad a lot as part of your role?
Cat: I’ve been to too many conferences to count! My job’s taken me to over a dozen states in the USA, plus Holland and Berlin!
Cath: I’ve been to Wales, Canada and the US.
Abi: In the past I’ve travelled to over 10 countries across the continents, but my work with Booking Protect has just taken me across the UK so far… watch this space, though!
Vikki: I’ve been to all sorts of places – Las Vegas, Texas, Chicago, New York and Toronto!
What about conferences? Have you had chance to head to any exciting ones?
Abi: I’ve been to Tessitura in Birmingham and TDS in London.
Cath: I’ve been to eight so far, I really enjoy networking and finding out what’s new in the industry.
Vikki: I’ve been to seven conferences so far and counting!
What are your favourite theatrical productions?
Cat: Hamilton, Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King are my favourites!
Leah: The Lion King is my favourite too!
Brodie: Les Misérables.
Abi: I love West Side Story because it was the first musical I was in the orchestra for. I just love the music.
Cath: A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim.
Liam: High School Musical – go Wildcats!
Rebecca: Mamma Mia!
Being part of the ticketing industry, you must have seen plenty of memorable gigs and live events. Any highlights?
Cat: I’ve seen some amazing gigs. Bon Jovi, Muse, Keane and Stereophonics are probably up there. Annie Lennox at Saddlers Well was also particularly special as seeing her was on my bucket list, but my guilty pleasure gig was definitely Vengaboys!
Liam: I love going to festivals, so some of my best experiences have been at festivals.
Abi: The best festival I’ve been to was Mostly Jazz – it was the year that Average White Band and Booker T and the MGs were playing. Prince died that year, and Booker T did an incredible acoustic version of Purple Rain with his son.
Cath: Hmm… it’s a tie, I think. I loved the closing ceremony for the Paralympics in 2012 as Coldplay and Rihanna were playing. I also really enjoyed the Roundabout Theatre Company’s staged reading of a Little Night Music in 2009 in New York City. Victor Garber, Natasha Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave starred, and I’m a closet Victor Garber fan. If we’re talking sport it would have to be the playoff final in 1999, Gillingham vs Manchester City. Man City came back from 2-0 down with 4 minutes to go to win 3-2 on penalties…unfortunately I was with the Gills supporters!
Brodie: The first time I saw The Lion King at the theatre, it was magical.
Finally… what’s your hidden talent?
Cat: I play the piano, although I’m a little out of practice!
Abi: My alter ago is a musician! I play for several different bands and orchestras.
Cath: I bake great cakes. My brownies are the best around!
Liam: Get ready for it… algebra!
Leah: I’m secretly crafty. I make lovely wax melts which are perfect for presents. The team in the office love buying them as gifts.
