Social proof is the new gold in today’s consumer world……..

Do you find yourself checking out a product or business before you trust them with your hard earned money? I do. In a world where a quick google (other search engines are available!) can help you make a decision before you buy.

I find myself concentrating on the poor scores to see how the business handled these as well as the number of high ratings. You look for ‘people like you’ for similar experiences so you know how you maybe handled. Whether it is a hotel booking, a restaurant or an item or service you are buying never have the use of customer reviews been so important.

How do we know they are real? In the early days of these sites there were reports of fake or false reviews being posted but I think these review engines have really upped their game. If you want to be sure look for a good number of reviews as I’m pretty sure that you can’t make thousands of fake or false reviews. Also do they read right is the detail in the review personal. If so it is highly likely these are genuine reviews.

According to an article by Trustpilot a BrightLocal study revealed that when judging a business on customer feedback, 44% of people looked for the quantity of reviews.

And with 92% of consumers now reading online reviews before purchasing online, it’s only natural that many businesses would work hard to convince potential customers by telling them about the customer experience they can expect. The higher the volume of reviews seems to make the score you have more trustworthy. As more businesses are starting to understand that review volume can help boost conversion rates, one question remains. How many reviews are we talking about? 500? 1,000?

I think it’s safe to say that there is no specific number a business needs to hit in order to benefit from review volume; but the more, the better. I was pleased this week when Booking Protect received the 2000th customer review on Trustpilot. Not only is this a proud moment but also a great achievement and one that gives our customers both retailers and end customers real confidence in the customer service we are delivering. Not all 2000 of the reviews are 5 star but with a Trustscore of 9.4/10 knowing that we reply to every review and try and use them to improve our service makes this even more important.
